of the said Parish about the sum of Twelve hundred Pounds Current
Money to be applied for that Purpose
And Whereas there are various Opinions amongst the Parishion-
ers of the said Parish about the Places whereon it may be proper to
place the said Church and Chapel of Ease it is therefore thought fit
by this General Assembly for settling all differences amongst the
Parishioners aforesaid to enact

And be it Enacted by the Right Honourable the Lord Proprietary
by and with the Advice and Consent of his Lordships Governor and
the upper and lower Houses of Assembly and the Authority of the
same That the Vestry-Men of the said Parish or the major Part of
them shall be and they are hereby impowered to erect and build on
two Acres of Land laid out and given by M.r Thomas Wright for
the use of the said Parish at a place called and known by the Name
of the Nine Bridges in the said County the Parish Church of the
said Parish in such form and manner as by the said Vestry shall be
adjudged fit and Convenient for the said Parish and also to erect
and build a Chapel of Ease at Tuckahoe Bridge and as near as may
be to the place where the present Church now stands of such Dimen-
sions and form and in such manner as the said Vestry or the major
Part of them shall Judge proper

And be it further Enacted by the Authority aforesaid that all the
Tobacco or Money now in the hands of the said Vestry which hath
arisen during the vacancy of the said Parish shall be applied by
them or the Major Part of them towards building and erecting the
said Church and Chapel of Ease and if the said sum now in the
Hands of the said Vestry shall not be sufficient for the Purposes
aforesaid the Justices of Queen Anne's County Court shall and they
are hereby required upon application made to them by the Vestry
aforesaid or the major Part of them to levy upon the Taxable In-
habitants of the Parish aforesaid such Quantity of Tobacco as may
be necessary for building finishing and Compleating the buildings
aforesaid not exceeding the Quantity of one hundred thousand
Pounds of Tobacco together with the Sheriffs Salary of five Pounds
of Tobacco per Centum for Collecting the same by three equal As-
sessments that is to say one third Part thereof at their next November
Court one third Part thereof at their November Court which shall
be in the Year seventeen hundred and sixty nine and one third Part
thereof at their November Court which shall be in the Year seventeen
hundred and seventy which said Quantity of one hundred thousand
Pounds of Tobacco shall and may be Collected by the Sheriff of the
said County together with his Commission as aforesaid and may be
paid and discharged by the Parishioners aforesaid in the same man-
ner that other County and Parish Taxes are collected paid and
discharged and shall by the said Sheriff be accounted for and paid:

to the Vestry and Church Wardens of S.t Johns Parish aforesaid
