oi a Family in their respective hundreds to return only the Number
of dogs more than two that shall be owned and kept by any Master
Mistress or head of a Family at any one Plantation in their respec-
tive hundreds and not of such Families as are within any City or
Town within this Province the said Recited Act to the Contrary
Notwithstanding

[Fox-
Hounds may
be kept free
from Tax]

And Whereas it is represented that the keeping of Fox Hounds

for destroying of Foxes is usefull and Necessary and that therefore
they should be Allowed to be kept Tax free Provided the Owners
will keep them either Coupled or kennelled and not suffer them to
go loose and at Large
Be it therefore Enacted that notwithstanding any thing in the
before recited Act or this Act to the Contrary real Fox hounds shall
be hereafter exempt from Tax and it shall not be the duty of the
Owners to give them in or of the Constable to return them

And be it further Enacted that if any such Fox hound shall be
found uncoupled and runing at large out of the Limits of the Land
of the owner of such hound unless when the Owner or some other
person by his permission is hunting with them such owner shall
forfeit and pay Two shillings and six pence for every such Offence
to be recovered before a single Justice of the peace by Warrant with
Cost the said Forfeiture to be paid to the Justice before whom it
is recovered and by him paid to the Sheriff of the County for the
same use as the Taxes raised by this and the before recited Act
are Applied

And be it also Enacted that if any such Fox hound so as aforesaid
runing at large shall kill or hurt any Sheep or shall be found killing
or Worrying runing after and pursuing any Sheep hogs or other
Stock such hound may be immediately killed with Impunity and the
Owner of such hound shall be liable to an Action by the party
Grieved to recover his damages against such Owner for such Injury
done and full Costs of suit

And be it Further Enacted that every single person of the Age
of Twenty one years being a Freeholder and not having or keeping
a family shall be Allowed to keep one Dog Tax free any thing in the
aforesaid recited Act to the Contrary Notwithstanding This Act to
Continue and be in force for and during the Continuance of the
before recited Act and no longer
