aforesaid shall not be now received by the said Vestry of Saint
Pauls Parish of the Sheriff or late Sheriff of Kent County then the
said Sheriff and late Sheriff are hereby directed and required to pay
such part of the said thirty Per Poll as is now in their or either of
their hands to the said Vestry of Chester Parish for the use and
purposes aforesaid and to render account to them thereof any thing
in any other Law Usage or Custom to the Contrary in any wise
notwithstanding

No. 8 An Act to Impower the Justices of Somerset County to Levy on the
Taxable Inhabitants of Somerset Parish in the said County the
Quantity of one hundred and forty four Thousand pounds of
Tobacco for the uses therein mentioned


Whereas the Rector Vestrymen and Sundry the Inhabitants of
Somerset Parish in Somerset County have by their humble Petition
to this General Assembly set forth that the Chapel of Ease in the
said Parish called Kings Mill Chapel is now much decayed and
in a little time will be dangerous for the Inhabitants to Attend
Divine Service therein and that the same is too small for the recep-
tion of the Congregation thereto adjacent and not so well situated
as might be and also that Monie Church in the said Parish is too
small for the Parishioners that attend at the same and have humbly
prayed that an Act may pass to enable the Rector Vestrymen and
Church Wardens of the said Parish to sell the Chapel aforesaid
and the parcell of land thereto belonging and to purchase a piece of

Ground in Princess Anne Town whereon they may erect and Build
a Chapel and that Eight hundred pounds or the Value thereof in
Tobacco may be Levied on the Taxable Inhabitants of the said
Parish to be applied by the said Vestrymen and Church Wardens
for that purpose and also that the sum of One hundred pounds or
the Value thereof in Tobacco may be Levied in like manner for the
enlargement of Monie Church aforesaid and that the same might
be Levied by three equal Assessments

Be it therefore Enacted by the Right Honourable the Lord Pro-
prietary by and with the Advice and .consent of, his Lordships Gov-
ernor and the Upper and Lower Houses of Assembly and the
Authority of the same that the Vestry and Church Wardens of the
said Parish for the time being or the Major part of them be and
are hereby Authorized and impowered to purchase in fee in the name
