On Motion Ordered that M :^r Speaker do Issue his Warrant to
the Deputy Secretary of this Province to make out a Writ of
Election directed to the Sherriff of S:^t Marys County to Elect a
Delegate to Serve in the General Assembly of this Province in the
room of Edmund Key Esq:^r deceased
The House Adjourns till 2 of the Clock

The House met. According to Adjournment
A Petition of several Poor Prisoners in Ann Arundel Goal com-
plaining of the High Sheriffs usage to them was Preferred to this
House. Read the first time and Ordered to lye on the Table
The House Adjourns till the Morrow Morning at 9. of the Clock

The Humble Address of the House of Delegates
May it please your Excellency
We his Majestys most dutiful and Loyal Subjects the Delegates
of the Freeman of the Province of Maryland in General Assembly
convened beg leave to return You our thanks for your Speech at
the Opening of this Session
No Reason Occurs to us Why any Gentlemen cannot Attend
here on the Publick business about the last of September or first
of October which We think the Season least inconvenient of any,
However We doubt not your Excellencys good intention in calling
Us together at this time and shall chear fully Proceed to frame
such Laws as the Present circumstances of the Country more im-
mediately require and we hope our Proceedings during the course
of the Session will Justify your Excellencys favourable Opinion
that We come together with Minds Sincerely disposed to Promote
the Tranquility and Welfare of the Province
