Which Bill was indorsed ; Read the second Time, and will Pass;
and was sent to the Upper House, by M.r Dent, and M.r H. Hall.
On Motion, Leave is given to bring in a Bill to repair the Public
Roads.
Ordered, That M.r Lee, M.r Hall, of Baltimore, T. Johnson, S.
Chase, Esq.rs and M.r Fielder Gantt, do prepare and bring in a Bill
accordingly.
The Report brought in by W. Murdock, Esq on the 15.th
Instant (from the Committee appointed) was read the second Time,
and the House unanimously concur with the Subject Matter therein
reported; and Ordered, That the said Committee be continued as
such, and that they make a final Report to the Lower House, at the
next Session of Assembly
On reading a second Time, the Report from the Committee ap-
pointed to enquire and Report to the House, by what Law or Custom
the Lord Proprietary of this Province receives the Fines, Forfeitures,
and Amerciaments, arising in the Courts of Justice, and also the
12.d per Hogshead, on all Tobaccoes exported out of this Province;
the Annual Amount of such Fines, Forfeitures, Amerciaments, and
Twelve Pence, per Hogshead for the last seven Years, to what


Uses and Purposes the same have been applied, with their Opinion
as to the Justice of such Receipt and Application; and that the said
Committee have Power to send for Persons, Papers and Things,
necessary to perfect such Inquiry and Report. The House unani-
mously Concur therewith ; and Resolve, that the Honourable Speaker,
M.r Edward Tilghman, M.r Murdock, M.r John Hall, of Annapolis,
M.r Thomas Johnson, M.r Ringgold, M.r Chase, M.r Hanson, M.r
Worthington, M.r Grahame, and M.r John Hall, of Baltimore, or
the major Part of them, be, and are hereby appointed a Committee
to compleat and finish the said Inquiry; and, for that Purpose, they
are requested by this House, to meet at the City of Annapolis, at
some convenient Time, in the Recess, when they will have no Inter-
ruption from the Public Business, and make such further Researches
respecting the 12. d per Hogshead, as they shall think necessary,
to enable them to report fully their Opinion, and the Reasons
whereon the same is founded, to this House, at the next Session
of Assembly.

And whereas, to make a full and satisfactory Enquiry and Re-
port on the above Matter, it is deemed requisite, that a thorough
