1762, devised the said House, and Lot of Ground, to Mary Gaither,
and Cassandra Gaither, Sisters of the said Samuel; and that Anne
Gaither, the Petitioner, purchased of Edward Norwood, who inter-
married with the said Mary, one fourth Part of said Lot of Ground,
for the Sum of £12..10.. as per Deed, bearing Date the 16.th Day of
November, 1763, legally acknowledged and recorded, appears. It
also appears to your Committee, that the Lot of Ground aforesaid,
was appraised in the Estate of the said Samuel Gaither, to the Sum
of £50.
Your Committee also find, by examining Wright Mills, and Fred-
erick Mills, upon Oath, that Wright Mills, the Petitioner, hath sus-
tained Damage, by Loss of sundry Tools, Materials found, and
Work done, towards fitting up the Front Room on the Lower Floor
of the House aforesaid, for a Store Room for Zachariah Hood,
amounting to a larger Sum than the Account delivered to your
Committee, by the said Wright Mills, which said Account is hereto
annexed, and amounts to the Sum of £13...7.. 3.
All which is humbly submitted to the Consideration of the Hon-
ourable House.

Which was read the first Time and ordered to lye on the Table.
J. Ridout, Esq from the Upper House, delivers to M.r Speaker,
the Bill, entitled, An Act to ease the Inhabitants of this Province,
and to impower the Justices, &.a to bind out Apprentices: Indorsed,
"By the Upper House of Assembly, November 26 1766. Read the
second Time, and will pass, with the Amendments annexed, Viz.
In the third Line from the Bottom of the first Page, leave out the
Words, "Provided always," and before the Word, "Enacted," in
the same Line, insert the Word, "further." In the 4.th Line of the
2.d Page, after the Word, "by," insert the Words, "Virtue of."
In the 6.th and 7.th Lines of the same Page, leave out the Words,
"where such Child shall be bound out Apprentice." In the 9.th Line
of the same Page, after the Words, "Non est," insert the following
Words," and if the Mother shall appear in Court, and offer sufficient
Security for the Maintenance of her Child, or if any Person, on her
Behalf, shall, in Court, offer such sufficient Security, then, and in
such Case, the Court shall not have Power to bind out such Child
Apprentice; but shall take such for his or her Maintenance."
Which Bill was read here, and with the Amendments proposed,
passed for ingrossing.
