being Protestants, claiming by or from Aliens: Indorsed, "By the
Upper House of Assembly, Nov.r 26, 1766: Read the second Time
and will pass, with the following Amendments, Viz.t Leave out the
Words, being Protestants," in the Title, and also in the 8.th Line, and
in the 14th and 15.th Lines, leave out the Words, "a Protestant, or
Protestants," and in the 21.st Line, and also the same Words in the
24.th Line, leave out the Words, "Papist or Papists or," in the 28.th
Line, and also the same words in the 29.th Line.

Which Amendments were here read, and unanimously rejected.
Ordered, That the Serjeant at Arms, do forthwith send an especial
Messenger, to acquaint M.r Hammond, M.r Mackall, and M.r Baker,
that this House requires their immediate Attendance, for the Dis-
patch of Public Business.
A Bill, entitled, An Act for the Payment of the Public Claims,
for emitting Bills of Credit, and for other Purposes therein men-
tioned: Was read the first Time, and ordered to lye on the Table.
The House adjourns till the Morrow Morning at 9 of the Clock

Thursday, November 27.

The House met.
Col. Henry appeared in the House.
Ordered, That M.r Lecompte do go with Col. Henry to the Upper
House, to see him take the Oath of Abjuration, prescribed by Act
of Parliament made last Session. He returns, and acquaints M.r
Speaker, that Gentleman had taken the Oath aforesaid, and sub-
scribed the same.
The Petition of Richard Paris was read the second Time and
referred to the Consideration of next Assembly.
The following Message, Viz.t
By the Lower House of Assembly, Nov, 27. 1766.
May it please your Honours,
Since the Journal was sent up to your House, his Excellency the
Governor has requested an Allowance to be made him, for Money
expended by him, for Expenses and Postage of Letters during the
War and this House have agreed to allow him £70, and on the
Petitions of Anne Gaither, and Wright Mills, to be reimbursed, for
Damages done them by unknown People in pulling down the House,
claimed to be the Right of the said Anne Gaither and destroying
the Tools and Work of the said Wright Mills, who was repairing
the said House, this House have agreed to allow the Representa-
tives of Samuel Gaither £100 for the Damages done to the said
House, and the Sum of £13...7.. 3 to the said Wright Mills, for his
