London, and so much thereof as may be necessary, be by them
applied towards the Purchase of the said Statue of the Earl of
Chatham, and Picture of Lord Cambden from the Life, by some
eminent Hand, to be put into a neat Gilt Frame, and in defraying
the necessary Charges and Expences of Insuring, and sending the
said Statue and Picture into this City, consigned to the Speaker of
the Lower House of Assembly, for the Time being, and the Over-
plus of the said Bills of Exchange, if any, to be placed to the Credit
of this Province, and invested in Capital Stock of the Bank of
England.
This House taking into Consideration, the generous and Patriotic
Conduct of those distinguishing Worthies, in the House of Peers,
and House of Commons, who avowedly denied a Parliamentary
Right to impose internal Taxes on the Colonies.
Unanimously Resolved, That the most grateful Thanks, and
sincere Acknowledgments of this House, be presented by M.r Garth,
to the Right Honourable the Earl of Chesterfield, the Right Hon-
ourable Lord Shelbourne, M.r Secretary Conway, General Howard,
Col. Barre, Sir George Saville, Alderman Beckford, and any others
of the Lords and Commons, M.r Garth may think have acted the
like glorious Part of defending, through Principle, the just Rights

of the Colonists, and that they be assured, their Honour shall never
be tarnished, or their Dignity lessened; but their Memories will be
endeared by their Benevolence and Regard to British America. Were
ordered to be entered.
On Motion, Leave given to bring in a Bill agreable to the fore-
going Resolves &.a And, that M.r Ringgold, M.r T. Johnson, M.r
Wolstenholme, M.r Hall, of Annapolis, M.r Grahame, M.r Hanson,
M.r Murdock, and M.r Chase, do prepare and bring in the same.
M.r Harris brings in, and delivers to M.r Speaker, the following
Report, Viz.t
By the Committee appointed by the Honourable the Lower House
of Assembly, to enquire into the Allegations and Facts contained in
the Petitions of Anne Gaither, and Wright Mills, Inhabitants of the
City of Annapolis.
Your Committee, pursuant to the Order and Appointment of your
Honourable House, have enquired into the several Facts and Allega-
tions therein contained, and do find, by the Information of Cor-
nelius Howard, Francis Fairbrother, and Isaac Harris, that in the
Evening of the Day of September 1765, the Dwelling House, in
the Occupation of Anne Gaither, was pulled down, and torn to Pieces
by a Number of People. We also find, that Benjamin Tasker, Esq
made and executed a Lease, of Part of a Lot of Ground, whereon said
House stood, to Samuel Gaither, the late Husband of the said Anne,
dated the 15.th Day of October 1759, and that the said Samuel Gaither,
by his last Will and Testament, dated the 23d Day of September
