specting Houses from each other, and many of them being necessarily
fixed for the Convenience of the Planters, on the Heads of Creeks
and Rivers, where Vessels of any considerable Burthen cannot go,
and even small Craft are often long detained from the Shallowness
of the Water, and it being often impracticable, for a Length of Time,
to remove Tobacco by Reason of the Ice; all which Delays greatly
discourage Trade, and the Expences occasioned thereby, fall ulti-
mately on the Makers of Tobacco: To Remedy therefore such In-
conveniencies for the future, for the more safe keeping of Tobaccoes
and Encouragement of Trade;

II. Be it Enacted, by the Right Honourable the Lord Proprietary,
by and with the Advice and Consent of his Lordship's Governor, and
the Upper and Lower Houses of Assembly, and the Authority of
the same, That ...............
. on the Western Shore, and .....
on the Eastern Shore, be and are hereby appointed Places on and
in which Warehouses may be built for the Reception, Storing, and
safe Keeping of Tobacco, for Exportation, in Manner herein after
mentioned.

III. And be it further Enacted, That any Person or Persons what-
soever, may at his, her, or their Will and Pleasure, and by Consent
and Agreement between him, her or them, and the respective Pro-
prietors of the Land, at the Places aforesaid hereby assigned and
appointed for erecting Warehouses, set up, erect, and build in and
upon any of the Places aforesaid, good Framed Warehouses, each

Warehouse being not less than Forty Feet in Length, and Twenty
Feet in Breadth, covered with Shingles, and floored with Plank, the
Upper Part of the Sleepers of which Floor, being at least Twelve
Inches from the Ground, with convenient Doors, well secured with
Iron Bolts, Barrs, or good Locks.

IV. And be it further Enacted, That the Inspector or Inspectors,
at the Inspecting House in or next adjoining to each of the said
Places, hereby assigned and appointed for Warehouses, shall, during
the Time that he or they shall be Inspector or Inspectors at the said
Warehouses, be also respectively Keeper or Keepers of all the said
Warehouses, to be erected in virtue of this Act, in the same Place
where his or their Inspecting House is or next adjacent thereto,
without any further or other Commission, Nomination, or Appoint-
ment, than what by the Laws now in being, is, or are necessary to
constitute him or them Inspector or Inspectors, at his or their respec-
tive inspecting Houses. But previous to any such Inspector or In-
spectors taking upon him or themselves, the Office and Duty of
Keeper of the Warehouses aforesaid, to be erected in virtue of this

Act, he or they shall give Bond to the Right Honourable the Lord
Proprietary, with two good and sufficient Securities therein, in the
Penalty of Two Thousand Pounds Current Money, with Condition
