the Taxable Inhabitants of the Said County at November Court
Seventeen hundred and Sixty Six, a Sum of Tobacco, as with bal-
lance then remaining in the Hands of the Vestry of Saint Pauls
Parish unappropriated which hath arisen on the late Vacancy of
an Incumbent in that Parish will make one Hundred Thousand
Pounds of Tobacco clear of five per Cent Commission for the
Sheriffs collection, and at the Next November Court following the
further Sum of Eighty Thousand Pounds of Tobacco clear of
Commission as Aforesaid to and for the Use and Purpose of Build-
ing a Parish Church and enlarging the Chappie aforesaid. And it
shall and may be Lawful for the said Vestry of Chester Parish
so as aforesaid to be chosen and they are hereby directed and required
to purchase two Acres of Land at or near the Cross Roads at the

Place called I. U. as aforesaid in the Parish aforesaid for the Use
of the Parish Church of the Parish aforesaid and to take a proper
conveyance in Fee Simple thereof to and for the Use aforesaid
and then to contract and agree with a proper Person or Persons
for the erecting and Building finishing and compleating in every
Respect (except the Pews or Seats) a good commodious Brick
Church of such dimensions as they shall think Sufficient for the
Parishioners, and not to cost more, including the Purchase of the
two Acres of Land aforesaid, than the Sum of one hundred and
Thirty Thousand Pounds of Tobacco, and that the said Vestry shall
also employ and contract with a proper Person or Persons to erect
and finish good and proper pews in the said Church on the Credit
of the Sale of the said Pews which when finished, the said Vestry
are hereby Authorized and Required to Sell and dispose of to the
Freeholders of the said Parish for such reasonable Price as will
in the whole be Sufficient to pay for the erecting the said Pews

And Whereas the Inhabitants of Chester Town aforesaid and
others of the County aforesaid have also Set forth in their Petition
that Sundry Persons residing within the said Town and other Persons
within the County aforesaid have heretofore at their own private
expence purchased a Portion of Ground within the said Town
Sufficient for the site of a Church and decent Burial ground and
that they have at a considerable expence erected a commodious House
thereon for the Publick Worship of Almighty God, which with some
Addition to be made to the said House would make it a Sufficient
Church for the new intended Parish and to which Persons in the

Country might also resort, and which they were willing should be
appropriated to the Public, saving to the private Proprietors their
Pews in the said Church and Gallery, which they have designed and
appropriated: And have prayed that the said Addition may be so
made that if the Assembly should think proper to establish another
place of Worship in the intended new Parish at the place called I. U.
that the Incumbent for the time being shou'd be obliged alternately
on Sundays to administer the Public Service in the said Town and
