mony's they shall have received under this Act, and the said Monies
shall keep in their hands untill the first day of November Court
Yearly and shall attend at the Court House of their respective Coun-
ties on the said first day of November Court yearly, at which time
and place each and every Person having Certificates as aforesaid, shall
produce them in order to be paid off by the Sheriffs of the County's
respectively who are hereby Authorised and required to do the same
out of the Monies by them so collected and received as aforesaid but
if they or any of them should not have Mony Sufficient to pay the
whole in such Case the Several Claimants shall be paid in Proportion
to their Several Claims, all which Certificates shall be Indorsed
expressing the Sums received thereon and Signed by the Persons
receiving the same. And be it further Enacted that the Several

Sheriffs shall and may retain in their Hands for their Salary or Com-
mission Six per Centum of the Monies collected and received in
pursuance of this Act and shall and are hereby required to render a
fair Account every November Court to the Justices of each respective
County of the said Monies so received and paid away with the
Vouchers and Receipts of Such payment and if any Overpluss the
same to be applied by the said Justices towards defraying the County

Provided nethertheless that this Act shall not extend to the South
Mountain in Frederick County or to any part of the said County to
the Westward of the said South Mountain, anything in this Act con-
tained to the Contrary Notwithstanding.

And be it Enacted by the Authority aforesaid, that in Case any
Dog shall be found attending upon or following any Convict servant,
Negro, or other slave not being on the plantation of his Master or
Mistress, the Master Mistress or Overseer of Such Servant or Slave
not being present, such Convict Servant, or Slave shall or may be
taken up and carried before any Single Justice of the Peace and by
his order receive any Number of Stripes on his Naked Back not ex-
ceeding fifteen for any one Offence

Provided always that in Case the said Servant or Slave shall

have leave by Writing or otherwise from his Master Mistress or
Overseer Permitting or ordering such Servant or Slave to be attended
or followed by any Dog, that such Servant or Slave shall not be
liable to the Punishment aforesaid.

And be it Enacted by the Authority aforesaid that in Case any
Master Mistress or other Head of a Family shall give in to the
Constable any Dog or Dogs not in fact belonging to or kept for the
proper Use or Convenience of such Master Mistress or other Head of
a Family in Order and for the Purpose of evading the Tax aforesaid
intended to be imposed by this Act upon Dogs owned or kept by
Single Persons not having or keeping a Family such Master Mistress
