of a Tract of Land Called Covington's Conclusion containing three
hundred and forty eight Acres; one other Tract called Covington's
Adventure containing Sixty Acres And one other Tract called Sweet-
wood containing three hundred Acres all lying in the County afore-
said contiguous to each other and the said Philip at the time of his
Death was indebted to sundry Persons on open Account to the
amount of Sixty three Pounds Current Money and upwards and by
Bonds to sundry other Persons to the amount of three hundred and
forty three Pounds three shillings and Nine pence one Farthing
Current Money of Maryland for the Payment of which several
Persons were bound as his Sureties and that the said Philip Coving-
ton together with a certain Daniel Jones of the County aforesaid
were Sureties for a Certain Nehemiah Covington in a Bond for the
Payment of one hundred and one pounds Seventeen Shillings and
seven pence Current Money of Maryland which said Nehemiah
has become Insolvent never having discharged the said Debt. And
whereas the said Mary did further Set forth that she had applied
The full amount of the Personal Estate towards the payment of one
of the Bonds aforesaid and that there still Remains a Charge on the
said Lands of upwards of four hundred Pounds Current Money
which will be annually increasing by the Interest thereon and that
the Houses and Improvements on the said Lands are becoming
annually less valuable the said Child the Heir at Law not having any
slaves or other Personal Estate to keep the Same in Repair And
that it would be greatly to the Advantage of the Heir at Law that a
sale should be made of the said Lands and a Speedy discharge of
the incumbering Bonds praying that in Order the Debts of the said
Philip might be discharged the Securities kept indemnified and the
Interest of the Heir promoted an Act of Assembly might pass to
enable her to dispose of the said Lands with such Provisions as
should be thought proper And whereas it appears to this general
Assembly that the material Facts set forth in the said Petition are
true it is therefore prayed that it may be enacted
And be it enacted by the Right Honourable the Lord Proprietary
by and with the advice and consent of his Lordships Governor and
the Upper and Lower Houses of Assembly and the Authority of
the same That the said Mary Covington shall be and is hereby im-
powered to Set up and expose to sale at Public Vendue to the highest
Bidder the said three Tracts of Land Called Covington's Conclusion,
Covington's Adventure, and Sweetwood in the Petition aforesaid
mentioned with the Appurtenances to each of them belonging three
Months Notice of the said Sale and the Time and place of such
