On Motion Ordered that Mr Johnson Col.o Tilghman Mr Ham-
mond M.r J. Goldsborough be a Committee to enquire what Laws
are near expiring and make Report to the House

p. 268

Ordered That Mr Henry Hall be added to the Committee to inspect
the Office and proceedings of the Commissrs of the paper Currency
Office &c
Benedict Calvert Esq.r from the Upper House delivers to Mr
Speaker a petition of the Rev.d Mr Thomas Bacon a petition of the
Rector Church Wardens Vestry and parishioners of S.t James's in
the County of Ann Arundel
The petition of Ignatius Wheeler and Benjamin Ward Inspectors
at Pomunkey Warehouse in Charles County A petition to enable
the present Inspector at Bruffs Inspecting House in Talbot County
to do all the Dutys required by Laws and to grant him such Additional
Salary as may seem just and reasonable and sundry petitions of
languishing prisoners in several County Goals of this province pray-
ing to be released from Confinement which petitions were Indorsed
By the Upper House of Assembly read and referred to the Con-
sideration of the Lower House of Assembly the said petitions were
here read the first Time and Ordered to lye on the Table
Col.o Tilghman brings in and delivers to Mr Speaker an Address
to the Governor which was read approved and Ordered to be In-
grossed
The House adjourns 'till two of the Clock

The House met &c
Thomas Ringgold Esq.r brings in and delivers to Mr Speaker the
following Ingrossed Address Viz
To his Excellency Horatio Sharpe Esq.r Governor and Commander
in Chief in and over the Province of Maryland
The Humble Address of the House of Delegates
May it please your Excellency
We have in pursuance of your Excellencys Recommendation taken
into our serious Consideration the Contents of the Copy of Capt.n
Hawkers Letter sent to us by your Excellency with your Message
of the 2d Inst.t and are extremely sorry we cannot comply with your
Request that we would let you know "what Answer we think it
would be proper for you to return him" As it is not agreeable to
the Sentiments of our Constituents that we should give your Ex-
cellency any Advice upon the Occasion
Which was read and Assented to and signed by Order of the
House by the Honourable Speaker
