An Act to impower the Justices of Charles County to Levy on the
Taxable Inhabitants of Portobacco Parish in said County an Ad-
ditional Sum not exceeding two Pounds of Tobacco Per Poll
Annually for the further Support of an Organist in the said
Parish

[Preamble]

Whereas at a Session of Assembly begun and held at the City of
Annapolis on Wednesday the twenty second day of November Seven-
teen hundred and fifty eight a Petition was Preferred by many of
the Inhabitants of Portobacco Parish in Charles County setting
forth That Doctor Gustavus Brown of said County had Preferred
a Donation of an Organ On Condition that the said Parish would
employ an Organist and praying that an Act might Pass to enable the
Justices of said County Annually to Levy on the Taxable Inhabitants
of the said Parish a sum not exceeding Two Pounds of Tobacco
per poll for that Purpose An Act did pass Accordingly and it being
represented to the General Assembly by Petition of Sundry In-
habitants of the Parish aforesaid That the aforesaid sum of two
Pounds of Tobacco Per Poll is found insufficient for the Purpose
aforesaid and prayed that an Act may pass for an Additional Assess-
ment of two Pounds of Tobacco Per Poll

Be it therefore enacted by the Right Honourable the Lord Pro-
prietary by and with the Advice and Consent of his Lordships Gov-
ernor and the Upper and Lower Houses of Assembly and the Author-
ity of the same That the Justices of Charles County Court shall
and they are hereby required Annually during the Continuance of
the above recited Act upon Application of the Vestry of the said
Parish to Assess and levy on the Taxable Inhabitants thereof a
further sum not exceeding Two Pounds of Tobacco Per Poll a
Certificate of which Assessment under the County Seal shall be a
sufficient Warrant for the Sheriff of the said County to levy and
Collect the sum of Tobacco therein mentioned from the said Tax-
able Inhabitants and the said Sheriff shall levy Collect Account for
and Pay the same to the said Vestry in the same manner as the two
Pounds of Tobacco Per Poll in the aforesaid recited Act is directed
to be Levyed Collected Accounted for and Paid retaining to his
