The Bill Ent.d an Act to confirm a Lease made by Thomas Harrison
of Baltimore County to the Commissioners of Baltimore Town &c.a
was Sent to the Upper house by Mr Dorsey & Mr Nathan Baker.
His Excellency the Governor communicated to Mr Speaker the
following Message (Vizt)
Gentlemen of the Lower House of Assembly
As I know that the Arms which came last Summer from Fort
ffrederick, were much rusted by lying there so long, and in very bad
Condition, I should have given Orders for their being cleaned &
repaired immediately after they were brought hither, if I had known
how the person that might have engaged to do it, would be paid, but
I could insist upon the armourers putting himself to a farther Ex-
pence, when there was already a Considerable Sum due to him from
the Publick for past Services, & he could not tell whether he should
ever be reimbursed or in any manner Satisfied, for his trouble. If
Gentlemen you will make provision for the payment of an annual
Salary to an Armourer or appropriate a Sum of money for Cleaning
and repairing the Arms above mentioned, I will take Care that such
Services shall be done, and If I find any ammunition has been
delivered out of the Magazine without my Order, or any lost through
Mr Walls's Negligence, I shall Supersede him; notwithstanding his
present ill state of Health renders him an Object of pity and inclines
One to make allowances for any Small failures but that I may be
better enabled to examine into the Affair I should be glad to have
Copies of the two last Reports that were made to your house con-
cerning the Arms and Ammunition, for I perceive that no such
Report has for many years been entered on your Journal.
