192 Assembly Proceedings, March 17-April 21, 1762.

No. 1

Act for amending the Staple of Tobacco, for preventing Frauds in
his Majesty's Customs, and for Limitation of Officers Fees, and an
Agreement shall be made with him for that Purpose by such Justices,
then the said Joshua Edmondson shall have the Preference to any
other Person: But in Case the said Joshua Edmondson shall not
appear at the Day so appointed and notified as aforesaid, or upon
appearing, will not agree to build as aforesaid, that then the Justices
aforesaid, may agree with any other Person, who will undertake
to build a Warehouse, Wharf and other Conveniencies, as aforesaid,
on such Half Acre; and in Case the said Justices do enter into any
Agreement, either with the said Edmondson, or any other person
or Persons, they shall take the like Bond, which shall be Recorded,
and have the same Uses, Powers and Effects, as by the said recited
Act is directed, obliging such Undertaker to have the same Building
done so as to receive Tobacco by the First Day of December next.

And be it further Enacted, That in Case the said Joshua Edmond-
son will not build on the said Half Acre as aforesaid, that then and

in such Case, the Justices aforesaid shall proceed to set a Value in
Current Money on the Half Acre of Land as aforesaid; and what-
ever Value the said Justices shall so set on the same, shall be paid to
the said Joshua Edmondson by such other Undertaker or Under-
takers, and from and after such Payment, such Undertaker or
Undertakers, upon Building as aforesaid, shall be invested in the
same Estate, to all Intents and Purposes, as the said Joshua Edmond-
son now hath in the said Half Acre of Land.

And be it further Enacted, That the Justices of the same County,
at the Expence of the same County, shall, and they are hereby
required to provide sufficient Beams, Weights, Scales, Blocks, Tackle,
and all other Necessaries, and try and examine the same, in the same
Manner that is directed for other Warehouses by the said Act.

Inspector.]

And be it further Enacted, That the Person or Persons who shall
undertake the Building as aforesaid, and keeping the same in Repair,
shall, and they are hereby obliged to let the same to the Inspector
of such Warehouse, under the same Penalty, and at the like Rates,
and to be recovered and paid, in the same Manner as in the same
recited Act is mentioned.

And be it further Enacted, That the Vestry of Great-Choptank
Parish, in the said County, or the major Part of them, shall, at the
Times and in the Manner in the said Act mentioned for choosing
Inspectors, under the Penalties therein mentioned, choose and recom-
mend two such Persons as by the said Act is directed, and cause a
List of the same to be returned to the Governor or Commander in
Chief, who shall choose and commissionate one of them.
