Kent County Court Proceedings, 1648-1656.7 hogh of tob in part of the afforesd bill & sd theare was a psell Liber A beehind & tht the bill was not wholly satisfyed, & tht what was behind was but a small psell & further saith not Tho: Hinson 7 mo 9th 1656 The Depossition of Wm Price taken in the prsents of mr Tho: Hinson aged 30 years or theareabouts Sworn Examined & saith That yor depon~ in June last or theareabouts, went to mr Hattons at Siuerne (& had in his Companye John Salter Jno Ringold & Tho: Hinson Junior,) to lay out a hogsM of tob or twoe of tob to buye nessessaries, for his usse, & hee asked for soape & weomens shooes, and theare beeinge none to bee had, yor depon & the Rest tht weare in his Company, went to mr Uties store, & mr. Utie went into the store, & Salter went into the store with him & wee stayd at the storehouse dore, & yor depon~ saw Jno Salter handlinge & Cheapninge of a hatt, & the hatts lay upon a box tht was halfe Open, & about halfe full of soape & as on hand was upon the hatts hee slide the other downe, into the box, which made yor depon~ suspect hee might take sume soape out of the box, & Cothinge out of the store yor deponent loockt upon his pocket & saw it whitt & yor deponent askt him what hee had got in his pocket, & hee ansr: I tould mr Utie my wife was at great want of soape, & hee verie kindly gaue mee a peece, & puld it out of his pocket & shoed it him & it was a smal Cake of soape & further saith not Sign Wm W Price 7 mo 9th 1656 The depossition of Jno Ringgold taken in the prseflts of mr Tho: Hinson aged 20 years or theareabouts Sworn Examined & saith That yor depon beeinge in the Company of Jno Salter Wm Price & Tho: Hinson Junior Price had ocassion to goe to mr Hattons store to lay out a hodg~~ or twoe of ton, but mr Hatton not hauinge such necessaries as Price wanted, wee went to mr Uties store to gett sum soape, & yot depon spacke to mr Utie for soape & his anst was tht his brother had denied diuers genttle woomen in the place of soape, & theare was little possibilitie of hauinge anny Salter alsoe made a great Complaint for soape to mr Utie & tould him his wife had non to wash his linnen, & mr Utie goinge into the store brought forth a p of shooes tht weare spocke for, & Salter seeinge the store dore open went in & went to a psell of hattes, tht lay upon a soape Chest, & was Cheapninge one, mr Utie & wee beeinge Come to him into the store, & yor depon seeinge the outside of his pocket whitt, loockte into his pocket & saw a Cake of soape at tht prsent in his pocket, beefore the went out of the storehouse & further saith not John Ringold Know all people that I Thomas Hawkines, of Nomeny In the [fol. 125] County of Westmorland, for Certaine Considerations mee theare |
