70 Kent County Court Proceedings, 1648-1656.
Liber A The deffendant doth acknowledge the Charge made by the sd Price
in his Complaint & tht the twoe depossitions prouinge the Charge
are true
The Court doth theareffore Order, that the deffendant shall pay
to the sd Wm Price For the Repearation of his Credite three hundred
pounds of tob in Caske, or acknowledge her Offence and aske the
plaintiffe Forgiunes in Open Court, & for a Fine shall pay three
hundred pounds of tobacco in Caske for publicke uses as the Court
shall thincke fitt with Court Charges els Execution
John Deare doth acknowledge in Court tht the Cowe or Cattell
tht was his sonne Georges hee hath Receiued into his own handes
againe to & for the use of his sonne George, as it was before the
which Cowe hee had formerly sould to George Croutch as may
appeare by a bill of sail upon Record bearinge date the [blank]th
of [blank] soe tht George Croutch had nothinge left in his hands
tht beelonged to the Childe George Deare, but on bull Calf e, the
which of Right beelongs to John Deare beeinge a mall:

The depossiti of Nicolas Pickard aged 46 years or theareabouts
tacken in the prsents of mr Wm Eliot sworne Examined & saith
That wheareas George Croutch was Indebted to mr Nicolas
Broune foure hundred pounds of tob & Caske by bill & mr Broune
had apointed Capt Vaughan to Receiue it, then mr Hinson Came
in the very Intreame & Receiued a hodgsh of tobacco for mr Brouns
usse of the afforesd bill, of the sd George Croutch and further saith
not Nicholas peckard
7 mo First 1656
The depossition of mr Thomas Hinson aged 35 years or theare
abouts taken in the prsents of mr Wm Eliot sworne Examined & saith
That yor depon beeinge appointed by mr Nicholas Broune to
goe to George Croutch to Receiue a hodgg of ton, (which Croutch
owed him) if Capt Vaughan had not Receiued it beefore & when
yor depon Came theare hee found the sd Croutch paying the tob to
Capt Vaughan, but yor depon hauinge Order from mr Broune to
Receiue it, Capt Vaughan & George Croutch weare both very wil
innge tht yor depon should Receiue it, & soe hee did, George Croutch
then demaunded his bill of yor depon, & yor depon~ Certified him tht
hee had not the bill but sd thus to the sd Croutch if yu will goe
with mee to mr Broune, yu shall haue in yor bill, or mr Broune
shall acknowledge so much Receiued as the hoggh Containes; And
shortly after wee went to mr Broune & Nicolas Pickard wth us &
mr Broune did before us all three acknowledge the Receipt of a
