50 Kent County Court Proceedings, 1648-1656. Liber A mastrs hous, talkinge her shee heard Jane say, tht her husband had a shouldr of pork of the widdow Bright because hee heipt to Cane whom the hoggs, & her mrs sayd, what, the hoggs tht Moll Croutch saw the garbish of, & Jane swore tht it was the same, & tht it was for carying one horn from the new ordinarie, and furthr saith not [fol. 115] The depossition of Margret Winchestr aged 35 yeares or theare 12 m abouts Sworne Examined & saith That about the last of Octobr yor deponent was at the house of John Salter & his wife gaue her to Eate sum singed porcke which was a good groth and further saith not By mee John Russell this Margret Winchester 19th of desembr Ano 1655 her marke The plaintiffes mr Eliot & Jn° Ringgold hauinge proued theire Charge or Complaint to the Court, which the sd plaintifes put in the last Court & haue moued this Court agst John Salter tht theare is Just Cause of suspission of Theft euident by many undeniable sircumstances & depossitions also makeing the susspition more aparant The Court doth thearefore Ordr tht the sd Jn° Salter shall not kill any hogg or hoggs without sume twoe of his honest neighboures with him at the killinge of them, or bee fore the bee cut up; tht the may bee able to giue euidence of the marks, beeinge theareunto Caled & this Ordr to Remaine in force till the Court signifie their pleasure to the Contrary, this to bee pformd, with Court Charges els Execution mr Wm Eliot & John Ringoll upon the forementioned declaration; entreat for Justice agst Wm Price also, beeinge one of the deffendants in this Action of suspission of Theft The Depö of mr Hene Morgan aged 42 years or thearabouts sworn examined & saith That about [blank] the deponent, went into the woods & had in his Company his own boy & Nicolas Pickard & Wm Price & beeinge in the woods the boy and price parted from thm and afterward wee heard a gunne goe off & Conceiued it to bee price tht shott, & in the Eueninge when wee mett togather at Brounes hous, yr deponent askt him if he kild any thinge, & hee Ansr no & swore it with bittr Othes, and wee wisht him if hee kild any thinge to Confesse it, but hee still denied tht hee kild any thinge; afterwards yr depon boy tht was with Price when hee shott tould the wenches what hee kild, but at prsent was loth to tell his mastr, but aftr the boy tould yr depon, tht Price shott at hoggs once & mist, & shot againe & kiled a markt shote of mr Southes; hearinge this yor depon went to |
