Kent County Court Proceedings, 1656-1662. 163 Mr Henry Morgan demandeth Rights of Land For transportacon Liber B of a woman Seruant this last yeare into this Prouince by Name Hanna Grinley wch Land mr Morgan entreth on the Esterne Shore Adioyninge to his Land on the South Est side of Riuer Wye wch he declareth in Court is not yet Taken up or Conuayd to any other pson Teste me John Cowrsey ClaY: Henry Clay Aged 40 yeares or there abouts Sworne in Court the 15th Aprill 1659 Saith That somtime last winter yor depont beinge at william Elliots Plantacon your depont did heare many Euill words Passe betwixt Gregory Murill & william Elliot, upon wch urgeinge words the sd Murill did sweare an Oath & did goe wth a Hamer in his hand towards the sd Elliot & said he would Throw it in his Face or strike him wth it if he would not be gone but did not, this yor Depont heard & saw & Further saith not. Henry Clay his marke John Salter Aged 36 yeares or thereabouts Sworne in Court 15th Aprll 1659. Saith That beinge wth Gregory Murill at the great thicket Planta eon, there beinge william Elliot, Gregy Murill askt william Elliott why he threw downe his Fence, wch the sd Elliot denyed And tould Gregory Murill if tht he had not come he would haue put it up againe, But there they grew to hott words & Gre: Murill tould william Elliot he was A Traitour or Rebell & Theefe, & stole mr Morgans Boate & went wth it ouer to Sciuerne, And Gre: Murill swore a great oath & tould the sd Elliot if he would not be gone he would throw a Hamer which was in his hand, in his Face, wth many other ugly words wch [fot. 57] past on both sides wch yor Depont at prsent remembreth not, neither did hee throw the hamer at him, & Further yor depont saith not: Teste me John Cowrsey Clar. John Salter his marke John Cowrsey Swor in Court the 15tb Apl 1659 Saith That beinge at mr Thomas Ringgolds House this last winter, there beinge John Salter & Gregory Murill where mr Ringgold & Gregory Murill Fallinge into some discourse about a steere or ox, wch Gregory Murill said was his, or one halfe of him, And if he met with him he would kill him, but mr Ringgold laid Clame to the said Beast And as you Depont remembreth did Forewarne Murill for Killinge or medlinge wth the said Beast, And many ill words past betwixt thm both. mr Ringgold tould Murill tht hee & his Pty would Fight or deale wth Murill & his Pty about it, wth many other words or to the same effect. And yor Depont heard Murill at that time sware one great oath, But yor Depont doth not at this prsent now Rememb more of what was then past or spoken betwixt thm but tht mr Ringgold |
