lawful for any Hawker, Pedlar, or Petty Chapman, coming into this
Province from any other Colony or Province, to trade, vend, or sell,
barter, or exchange, any Goods whatsoever within this Province, or
for any Hawker, Pedlar or Petty-Chapman whatsoever, to trade,
vend or sell, barter or exchange, any Goods, Wares or Merchandizes,
that he or they shall buy or purchase out of this Province, except
Goods, Wares, or Merchandizes, immediately imported from Great-
Britain into this Province, without first having obtained a License
to trade within the same as a Hawker, Pedlar, or Petty-Chapman,

from the Clerk of the County, within which he or she shall first enter
this Province, or of the Clerk of the County where he or she shall
reside, under the Seal of the said County, in the following Words.
License is hereby given to A. B. for one Year from the Date hereof,
to trade, deal, or traffic, as a Pedlar, Hawker and Petty-Chapman,
within the Province of Maryland, according to the Directions of an
Act of Assembly intituled, An Act for his Majesty's Service. Given
under my Hand, and the Seal of County this
Day of Anno Domini . Which License the
Clerk shall make out and sign, with his proper Name, and affix thereto
the Seal of the County.
"And be it likewise Enacted, That every Hawker, Pedlar and
Petty-Chapman, upon his, her or their, taking out such License, shall
pay as a Fine for the same, for the Uses herein after mentioned, to
the Clerk of the County who shall make out such License, the Sum of
Four Pounds Current Money; and shall also pay such Clerk for his
Fees, the Sum of Five Shillings Current Money, for making out such
License.
"And be it likewise Enacted, That such Hawker, Pedlar or Petty-
Chapman, shall, and he or they are hereby obliged to renew such
License yearly, and every Year, while he, she or they, shall continue
to trade, traffic or barter, within the same Province, from the Clerk
of the County where he, she or they, first took License, or from
the Clerk of the County where such Hawker, Pedlar or Petty-Chap-
man, shall be at the Expiration of the Time by the first License
granted, and pay for the same License, the Sum of Four Pounds
Current Money as aforesaid, yearly, and every Year; and likewise
pay such Clerk as his Fee for such License yearly, the Sum of Five
Shillings Current Money, and no more.
"And be it likewise Enacted, That if, after the Time herein before
mentioned, any such Pedlar, Hawker, or Petty-Chapman, shall deal,
traffick or barter, with or for any Money, Goods, Wares, or Mer-
chandizes, within this Province, without having such License as
herein before mentioned, such Pedlar, Hawker, or Petty-Chapman,
shall forfeit and pay the Sum of Ten Pounds Current Money: To
be recovered, with Cost of Suit, in the County Court where such
Hawker, Pedlar, or Petty Chapman, shall be found, by Action of
