The Bearer hereof, Mr Stephenson, has applied for a Quantity of
raw Hides for which he proposes to deliver Shoes in Exchange.
He is very well recommended and has a sufficient Quantity of Leather
already tanned to make one thousand Pair of Shoes. It would be
much more advantageous to the State to receive the Shoes at a short
Period, we have therefore referred him to you, and must beg you
will [pardon] us for giving you so much Trouble.

Hanson of the 5 Regimt Cloth and Trimmings for a Waistcoat &
Breeches & Linen for one Shirt due for the present year — to Capt
John Lavascher one Suit of Cloaths & Linen for four shirts for the
present Year on Acct

Plumbly and George Linton, Guarding the Magazine at the Head of
Severn, each, one pair of Breeches, one Shirt, one pair Shoes, one
pair Stockings and one haversack and also Linen for a Bag for the
use of the said Guard — George Scone a Soldier in the 5th Regimt
one pair Breeches, one pair Stockings & one Blanket on Account —
William Beatty and George Twinch, each, one pair Breeches, one
pair Shoes, one pair Stockings, and one Blanket — James Dowden one
suit of Cloaths, two shirts, one pair Shoes, one pair Stockings and
one Blanket on Account. And also to Lieut Jackson forty nine shirts
for the use of the like number of men belonging to the late Colo
Scammels Regiment of New England Troops confined in this City
with the small pox to be charged to the Continent

As great Quantities of Wheat are, by this Time, collected in the
several Counties, it will be indispensably necessary to have it manu-
factured ready to comply with any Demands that may be made on us.
This we conceive cannot be effected without a Suply of Specie, to
defray the Expences of grinding, transporting to the Mills and other
