Business without our Permission, and, as the Legislature of this
State has not adopted the Resolution, it is our Desire that you imme-
diately desist from recruiting in Maryland. The Men you have al-
ready engaged must have their Option, to return the Money you have
paid them, by the 12th of February, and be discharged, or to reinlist
in the Line of this State; in the latter Case, General Smallwood will
order you to be reimbursed the Bounty you have paid them, and if
they have received Cloathing, will either pay you for it, or have it
returned.

Friday 1st February 1782.
Commission issued to Thomas Downey appointed 2d Lieut — Elexis
Bailey Ensign of Capt Robert Lemmons Compy belonging to the
Upper Battalion of Militia in Baltimore County. —
Ordered that the western shore Treasurer pay to Elijah Merryman
one hundred and eighty five pounds, two shillings and seven pence
of the Bills emitted under the Act for the Emission of Bills of Credit
&ca, thirteen shillings and four pence to be by him retained and the
Balance to be delivered over [as follows] nineteen pounds, eight shil-
lings and two pence to Capt Robert Lemmon. Twenty two pounds,
five shillings and ten pence to Capt John Talbot — twelve pounds,
eighteen shillings and four pence to Capt Benjamin Merriman, six-
teen pounds, eleven shillings and eight pence to Capt Paul Hahn, thirty
three pounds, ten shillings and ten pence to Capt Elexis Lemmon,
twenty eight pounds, fourteen shillings and eight pence to Capt
Nicholas Merryman, twenty one pounds, ten shillings and four pence
to Capt Philip Stels, seventeen shillings and nine pence to William
Matthews and twenty eight pounds, eleven shillings and eight pence
to Capt John Murray due them p pay rolls and Accts passed by the
Aud Genl—
That the said Treasurer pay to Benjamin Stoddert upon the order
given to him by this Board of the 10th Novr 1781 for twelve hundred
pounds emitted under the Act for the Emission of Bills of Credit &ca
only eight hundred and ninety two pounds, twelve shillings & two
pence
That the said Treasurer pay to His Excellency Governor Lee three
hundred and fifty six pounds, eighteen shillings and seven pence —
John H Stone Esqr one hundred and fifty pounds, six shillings, and
four pence — Samuel T. Wright Esqr two hundred and twenty six
pounds thirteen shillings & four pence — Zephaniah Turner Esqr one
