A Petition from Benjamin Denny of Caroline County was laid
before the Board setting forth that at the last March Court for the
said County he was presented in Twenty Presentments for vending
Liquors to sundry persons at rates above those allowed by the Court,
which he by no means apprehended exceeded those established by
the said Court — that he obtained Licence to open & keep his Tavern
and requested the Clerk to furnish him with the rates, but did not
get them Owing to his being so much engaged in the Court business
as not to make them out — that at June Court last the Petitioner was
convicted and fined upon the Presentments aforesaid and stands
committed for the Non Payment of said fines — and that he has a
Wife and three Infant Children whose ruin must ensue if he is com-
pelled to pay the fines aforesaid : And the Justices of the said Court
having recommended the Said Benjamin Denny as a proper Subject
for Mercy and forgiveness — the Board taking the Same into Con-
sideration do order and direct a Remission of the said fines. —
