Town September 21. 1781 for neglecting to March to George Town
and it being represented by the Certificate of Capt Ralph Hilleary
Joseph Maddin, Ralph Crab, Thomas Darnall and William A. Hall
that the said Thomas Wilkes served five Months in Capt Hillearys
Company of Select Militia in Frederick County and his behaviour
during that Time was in every point such as became a true and Faith-
ful soldier and Subject of this State It is therefore Ordered that
nineteen Pounds part of the Twenty pounds be remitted unto the
said Thomas Wilkes. —
Whereas it appears to this Board that John Stouder of Frederick
County was fined thirty pounds specie by a Militia Court Martial held
at Frederick Town 21 September 1781 for not doing duty as Guard
to the British Convention Troops at Frederick Town and it is repre-
sented by the Petition of the said John Stouder certified by several
of his Neighbours and also the Deposition of John Carter and
Thomas Brown that he the said John Stouder was sick when he
should be on Duty and continued so the best part of the Summer —
It is therefore ordered that Twenty nine pounds, part of the thirty
pounds aforesaid be and is hereby remitted. —

We know of no Mode of supplying your Men with Shoes so
eligible as the one you propose : we therefore request you to apply
to Mr Steward for a Horse, and send off one of your Soldiers to
Frederick Town, for as many Pairs as he can bring. As for fresh
Provisions, we can, at present, take no Step in that Affair, the In-
tendant now being absent; as soon as he returns, we will direct him
to take Measures to supply you

The public Distresses obliged us to draw an Order on you for
£40. to Captn Bryan, in Addition to the £100, before drawn for; but
as Captn Bryan never received the Letter in which the Order was
contained, you will be pleased not to pay it, should it be presented.
We are so much pushed for Money to fit out the Barges, that we
shall be compelled to draw for all the public Money in your Hands ;
we therefore request you will be so obliging as to let us know by
