Whereas Robert Dashiell Captain of the Barge Terrible and Zadock
Botfield Lieutenant of the Barge Fearnought, are charged with highly
unbecoming and improper Conduct in the late Action with the Enemy
in the Bay of Chesapeake :
Ordered that the said Robert Dashiell and Zadock Botfield be and
are hereby suspended until further Orders. —

Haddaway]

We request you would immediately reinlist all the Men belonging
to your Barge, to serve until the first Day January seventeen hun-
dred and eighty four; and as an Inducement for the Men chearfully
engaging, you may assure them that they will be constantly kept in
Pay during the Barge Equipment, and will be allowed to go to
their respective Homes on Furlough during the Severity of the
Winter Season, after they return from the present Expedition, which
will not be above ten Days or a Fortnight. You may also further
assure them that they will be paid their last Month's Wages, before
they sail on the present Expedition.

The General Assembly have passed a Resolution, directing Lieut
Robert Denny to pay to the Governor and Council five hundred
Pounds Specie. You will be pleased to receive that Sum, to be
applied to the Equipping the Barges.

The General Assembly have passed a Resolution, directing you to
deliver immediately to the Governor and Council, five hundred
Pounds Specie, out of the Money received by General Smallwood
for the Recruiting Service. You will be pleased to deliver the
Money to the Treasurer of the Western Shore.

The Enemy's Barges being still in the Bay, and committing Depre-
dations upon the Inhabitants on the Shores, we find it necessary to
send down our Barges (under the Protection of a French Vessel of
Force) immediately after them. The Cruize will not last more than a
Fortnight, if so long, and as our Barges are not completely manned,
we must request the assistance of some of the Continental Soldiers
at this Post, 25 will be sufficient. We will stand between you and
all Censure; and as an Encouragement to the Men, we will engage
