to pay them on their Return at the Rate of £3. pr Month in Specie, it
being the same Pay which the Barge Men receive, and the Money
they receive shall not be deducted from their Pay as Soldiers.

Present His Excellency the Governor.
Benjamin Stoddert Jeremiah T. Chase & James Brice Esquires.
Ordered that the western shore Treasurer pay to Thomas Johnson
Junr two hundred and forteen pounds, four shillings and six pence
specie out of the money appropriated for the Barges to be advanced
to the Officers and men of the Barge Protector in part of their pay
on Account.
That the said Treasurer pay to Richard Conway, seventy pounds
eleven shillings specie for one Years Interest due on two Certs issued
agreeable to the Act to adjust the Debts due from this State. —
That the said Treasurer pay to Henry Lyles for the use of Colo
William Lyles eight pounds, seventeen shillings and eight pence specie
due him for Interest on the Balance of a Certificate issued agreeable
to the Act aforesd. —

Ordered that the western shore Treasurer pay to Lawrence O'Neal
seventy pounds eleven shillings and eight pence specie agreeable to
the Act to adjust the Debts due from this State adjusted and passed
9 May 1782. —

Ordered that Capt Dashiell and Lieut Botfield attend this Board
at half past five O'Clock this Evening to answer for their Conduct
in the late Action with the Enemy's Barges and that they bring with
them such Witnesses and Evidences as they may think proper for
their Defence. —

Ordered that the Officers of the several Barges also attend at the
same time with three of the most intelligent men from each of the
Barges to give Evidence. Ordered that Lieutenant Handy of the
Barge Protector also attend at the same time. —
Commission of Letters of Marque and Reprisal issued to Thos
Conway Commander of the Schooner Salley one hundred and twenty
six Tons burthen navigated by 14 men, mounting six Carriage Guns
belonging to William and Henry Lyles of Alexandria in Virginia. —
Capt Dashiell and Lieutenant Botfield having attended agreeably
to the order of this Day. The Board proceeded to an enquiry into the
Conduct of Lieutenant Botfield in the late Action with the Enemies
Barges in Chesapeake Bay, and upon full Consideration of the Case
it was determined that Lieutenant Botfield be reinstated in his Com-
mand. —
At the same Time The Board made Enquiry into the Conduct of
Captain Dashiell, but postponed a Determination thereon until further
Order.—
