[Council to Honble Intendant]

We have enclosed you a Copy of our Agreement with Mr Steward
respecting the Vessel designed for a Galley, and request you will
furnish him with a Sum, not exceeding thirteen hundred Pounds
Current Money, as he wants it, that in Case of a Failure by him,
it may not be imputed to any Neglect or Default in us. —

Enclosed you have a Bill for Cordage. As this Cordage will be
absolutely necessary within a few Weeks, we request 'you to have
it ready as soon as possible, and delivered to Mr Steward or to his
Order.

Ordered that the western shore Treasurer pay to William Hen-
derson two Pounds, five shillings, and James Patterson four Pounds,
seventeen shillings and six Pence specie out of the Money for the
Barges, due them per Accounts passed. —
That the said Treasurer pay to John Shaw three Pounds Specie
out of the money aforesaid for eight pounds of Match rope for the
use of the Barges. —
That the said Treasurer pay to Capt Daniel Bryan ten Pounds
specie out of the money aforesaid to be laid out in Clothing for the
use of Negro Michael the property of the State & accounted for.
That the said Treasurer pay to Heber Whittingham, ten Pounds,
ten shillings specie agreeable to the Act to adjust the Debts due from
[this State] per Accounts passed. —

We expected the Barges under your Command would have pro-
ceeded on their Cruize before this; we apprehend many bad Conse-
quences from their remaining here, and request that they may sail
immediately. If Captn Spedden's Barge is absent, Orders must be
left for him to follow you. We understand there is a French Sloop,
waiting off the Harbour for the Barges; if so, it is the more necessary
that you proceed without Delay.
