Friday 27th September 1782
Commission of Letters of Marque and Reprisal issued to Simon
White, Commander of the Schooner Harlequin eighty eight Tons
burthen, navigated by twenty eight men mounting ten Carriage
Guns, belonging to Daniel Bowley and William Taylor of Baltimore,
the said Captain White having returned the Certificate given to him
by this Board of the 18th July last and the Bond given for the
Certificate Cancelled, and also Commission issued to John Channing
commander of the Brig Ceres, one hundred and fifty five and three
quarters Tons burthen, navigated by thirty five men, mounting
twelve Carriage Guns, belonging to Thomas Worthington of Balti-
more.
Ordered that the western shore Treasurer pay Charles LeCompte
three Pounds, five shillings specie agreeable to the Act to adjust the
Debts due from this State per Account passed.
That the said Treasurer pay to Doctr James Murray forty two
Pounds, ten shillings specie out of the money arising from the five
shillings specie Tax due on a Certificate of George Hanson to James
Lloyd for a Horse purchased of him agreeable to the Act to furnish
the Southern Army with twenty Dragoon Horses.
That Captain Warfield deliver to Mr Shaw three Barrels of Cannon
Powder for the Barges.
That the Issuing Commissary deliver to Mr Paul Snyder Provi-
sions for four Persons four fifteen Days agreeable to an Order of the
Secretary at War of the 15th January 1782.
That Doctr James Murray be requested to Furnish Doctr Worth-
ington with what Medicines he may want out of the State Shop, for
the use of the Barges.
The Governor and Council having determined to change the Vessel
intended for a Galley, into a Ship, and to furnish her with a Spar
Deck, and having also engaged to Supply Mr Stephen Steward occa-
sionally with a Sum not exceeding thirteen hundred Pounds Current
Money, to enable him to complete the same with the utmost Expe-
dition; the said Stephen Steward hereby agrees to finish the said
Vessel as a Ship with a Spar Deck in a good substantial and work-

manlike Manner, on or before the first Day of February next, and
to deliver her to the Governor and Council, or their Order on the
following Termes, that is to say, That the said Stephen Steward be
allowed as a full Compensation for his Trouble, Care and good
Management therein, the Commission of five per Cent, upon all
Sums of Money actually and bona fide expended in finishing and
fitting the same and his reasonable Expences in procuring Materials.
In Witness whereof the said Stephen Steward hath hereunto put
his Hand this twenty seventh Day of September in the Year of our
Lord seventeen hundred and eighty two.
