466 Letters to the Governor and Council

for me & have me up to give my Informations & releasd to Appear
at a Special in General Court held for the Eastern Shore & hope you
will Intercede & remember his Excellency of his promise to me as I
am ready & willing to do Every thing: in my Power & if I was at home
I shou'd be a means of detecting them if you will please to send me
an answer the favour shall be gratefully Acknowledged

Thos. Sim Lee Esqr Govr]

Humbly Sheweth That your Petitioners being now confin'd in
Frederick Goal at a great distance from their friends & having no
subsistance but what the Goal Allows & not Even that & those that
have familys their familys Perishing for want of Necessaries hav-
ing Nobody to maintain or do for them hope your Excellency will
take Our case into your most serious consideration & Order us Back
to Annapolis for Immediate Tryal, Yr Excellency we hope will not
forget us on the reading of this as some of us Even almost all has
not a Shirt to Shift themselves with we hope we shall meet with that
Mercy from your Excellency as will reinstate us in Our former Sta-
tions that we may become Usefull members to Society if yr Excel-
lency will be pleaStd to Order us down to Annapolis you may rely
that we will come down without putting the people to Trouble or
County to Expence I hope your Excellency will not infer any thing
Else but real Truth from mentioning the above We hope yr Excel-
lency will order or send for us from this place

[Thomas Doyle To His Excellency Thos Sim Lee Esqr Governor
& the Honourable Council]

Yr Petitioner Having now been try'd almost Six Weeks & thought
myself Acquitted & shoud have been discharged before Hopes yr
Excellency & Honours will take it into yr most serious consideration
& order my releasement as my family is Suffering much for want of
Provision as well as my Self. If yr Excellency & Honours would be
pleaStd to Order me my Own I shoud have for a while sufficient to
maintain me But I am informed that Cap. Middleton &c has made
use of that & many other things & Intends to Expose the rest to
Public Sale I hope yr Excellency & Honours will take it into con-
sideration & see by what Authority he can do it after I have recd a
Tryal & Acquitted Even had I been found Guilty Capt. Middleton
cou'd Never have Claim'd me as a Prize as it woud undoubtedly have
been the sole Property of the States Therefore Earnestly request yr
Honours will seriously Consider the Above
