money — a good opportunity will offer to send it by Mr Norris who
will be up this week with the Draughts from this County. I shall use
the utmost expedition in procuring the remainder of the Cattle but
fear as I hinted before I shall meet with some difficulty the people
in General are much averse to parting with their Cattle on the Terms
prescribed by the Law & some declare they will make a present of

their Beef than, take Certificates — provided cash could be given I

could Immediately procure a number & with great ease otherwise I
know I must have a great deal of Trouble but will do the best I can.

[Joseph Wilkinson, Calvt County, to Gov...Lee.] (Favour of
Mr. Norris)

Inclosd you will Receive a list of the Select Militia Draughted
agreeable to Act of Assembly for that purpose, there is no Officer in
the Select, but Mr Joseph Blake who now holds an Ensigns Commis-
sion & is Entituled to a Lieutency who I hope you will Appoint Lieut,
to the Select, as he turn'd out Volentuier, Capt. Cleland, Grinfield &
Williamson has Offered to take the Command of the Company no
Ensign has Offered. Mr Norris the Bearer will Deliver such of the

Draughts of this County as coud be Collected Tho. very few Agree-
able to the Number Draughted, some are Indigent Others Sick &
several have Secreted themselves so as not to be taken, I have Ordered
them to be taken up as Deserters, which I apprehend is Right tho the
Law dont Express it to be done. I wish for your Direction Respect-
ing this matter As I conceive it Absolutely Necessary to Oblige them
to go off, if they coud not be taken till within a week of the Expiration
of the time
