Admit me as states Evidence & should return Immediately for the
better apprehending those people from that Assurance I have not a
shiff of Linnen but am full of Vermin & Nothing to lay on tho I am
Extremely happy in Being brought before yr Excellency for Tryal &
from yr Excellency's Promise of Pardon I am ready with my infor-
mation yr Excellency was PleaStd to ask me if I cou'd give Security
to special or General Court when at home I can give you moderate
security & good men & then shall be able to make Mr Garrick know
me & as something more which is material concerning him has
Occurd to my memory, yr Excellency mentiond my Property, I have
no Land nor Negroes But a few Household Goods which I hope yr
Excellency will consider for the sake of my wife &c what a distresStd
situation she must be in her condition the distance I am from her &
she not knowing what is become of me, yr Excellency may depend
I always was ready to serve my Country at Alarms pay Taxes or
any thing Else with the greatest Alacrity I never lay in debt with
the Sheriff one moment & yr Excellency may depend this is the first
Time I Ever was confin'd I hope yr Excellency will Order me before
you to receive the rest of the Information & Enlarge me as you will
deliver a distressd family from many Calamities I trust in yr well
known Clemency

May it please your Excellency I am sincerely sorry that I am
Obligd to address you under these circumstances had it been for any
thing Else shou'd have been proud I was never confined before in my
life which makes it much harder with me & the Bitter Blasphemy
renders it far more disagreeable the horrid Stink & Iron is beyond
Expression when your Excellency was down I did not know you &
was sorry I was wanting in Respect I am an Englishman Born & bred
but now have family connections in America I have ever since this
present dispute been conformable to the Laws of the State I have
marchd kept Guard Never was behind hand with the Sherriff but
always conformd with the greatest Alacritly I never shoud have
been led into this (illegible) but Never hearing from my Parents
till about the first day of may I had advice sent me of Letters from
my father by a first cousin of mine a Major Arrivd with the fleet
with Cash &c but have not had the pleasure of Getting them I never
meant to Injure America let what will Appear I hope to make it
appear to the Contrary.
Lt Colonell Dashiell when I came away told me upon his word
that he wrote to your Excellency that he never suspected me & that
I was to go back Again & further to Admit me for the States Your
Excellency may depend upon my doing Every thing for the good of
