Letter 121

[Geo. P. Keeports, Baltimore, to Gov. Lee.]

May It please your Excelly I Received your Letter The Day before
yesterday Evening Requesting me to give you Imediate Information
how far the Gun Carriages are Finished and what Part is Begun.
The wood work and Elevating screws fur seven (out of The Twelve
I was ordered to have made) only are Finished and The Iron work
of one Carriage begun.
Exclusive of Those Carriages I have had Two New Carriages
made (in the Room of Two old ones that were Rotten) one of which
is Finished and the other will be in a Few Days If not stoped for
want of Iron, so that by the Latter End of Next week The Five old
Field Peices will be Compleatly Fitted up and Finished all to Paint-
ing. Two of The Ammunition Wagons will be Finished by To-
morrow Evening all to Painting and Two others are begun. Six
sett of Harness for Four Horse Teems are Likewise Finished all to
Traces.
It Takes about 450lbs wt of Iron To Compleat a Carriage and Four
Wheels and about The same Quantity for a Wagon so that the Quan-
tity of Iron Wanting must be Calculated by the work That is to be
Finished. The blacksmiths Likewise would Very willingly Take Iron
at The Current Price in Part Pay for their work.
Mr Saml Hughs has Notified to me that he Intends to Take away
the 20 Peices Cannon I Received from his Furnace and Requested
me to Inform your Excellcy Thereof, I wish to be Informed wether
I may Permit him to Take Them without an order

[Dan'l of St. T. Jenifer, Portobacco, to ———— ]

I had the honor of a Letter from the Governor and Council dated
the 12th Inst relative to the Horses received by me for the use of the
State. I by the two last posts informed your Excellency that the
Quota for this County was compleat which was done without Loss
of time. I shall observe your directions with regard to the Surplus
horses but am afraid as there is no money in this County they will
sell to considerable Loss in case the owners shou'd refuse to receive
