them. I cou'd wish that your Excellency and the Council wou'd give
orders for those that are for the Troops to be immediately taken
away as they are in some danger from the Enemy in case any Barges
should come up the River. They are exceedingly burdensome to my
son who is obliged to keep constant watch on them. I am Sir exceed-
ingly indisposed.
The horses have been well fed and are much mended since they
were rec'd indeed they are very fat.

[Henry Shryock, Hagers Town, to Gov. Lee.]

May it Please your Excellency I Have this Moment Recd your
Exclencys Letter Directing Me What Number of horses I am to Fur-
nish from this County I Have Colected twenty one and should had
Colected the Whole Number Directed By the Genl Assembly Had
Not Mr Barnes tould Me that your Excelency and the Honorable
Council Would suspend the Colection of som Part of the Number I
am Not able to Furnish the Number of Light horse as there is hardly
any Horses in this County fit for, that Purpose But Draught horses
I have a Number as Good as in the State of Maryland and Not one
horse But What has Ben Proven to Be Good. I have also a good Set
of Gears to Each Horse and have the Promes of three Waggons
I thought to had Fixed the Whole Number of Horses in to teams if
I Could By any Means Procure Waggons enough.

[George Stricker, Frederick Town, to the Council.]
(By Mr. Holmes)

I wrote to you in a Letter Bearing Date the 1st Instant Concerning
the Collection of Horses and Received yours of the 12th Instant by
William Holmes, wherein I find and have Reasons to Believe that
mine of the first Instant did not come to your Hands of which the
Inclosed is a Coppy.
Amongst the Number of Horses Collected you will find in the
Inclosed the Majority are Draft Horses and all very able Ones, and
as the Number allready Collected will be the sufficient Number as-
signed for this County agreeable to your last letter — the whole of
them have Been Collected from those people Pointed out by the Act
of Assembly. I therefore Leave it to the Honourable Board to Re-
ceive those allready Collected or to Impower me to Exchange Draft
for Troops, which I am Doubtfull will be Troublesom
Your further Directions therein will oblidge Your Huml Servt

There is a vacancy for the want of an Ensign in Captain Whites
Company of Militia belonging to the Frederick Town Battalion.
The Company seem to have fixed on Andrew Lowe as the man of
