per on board a Schooner called the Molly belonging to Mr Robert
Pitt of Virginia and was bound for Wicomoco River in Somerset
County or any other Post in the State aforesaid, that Mr Samuel
Gerock (who owns a part of the Cargo on board said Vessel) might
think proper to order her too, he being on board said Vessel as
Captain and Supercargo, he having cleared said Vessel out in his own

[Sam. Smith, Balt., to Gov. Lee.]

I this Moment am Inform'd by two Men who escap'd that James
Rouse's Sloop is taken, in which the State had forty Two Hhds To-
bacco — they also report that Martin Trout is taken with 12 Hhds of
State Tobacco. This is a heavy Loss to my Business, they were taken
just coming out of Patuxent by three Barges full of Men one of
which went down & the other two up to burn Capt. Yellett's Brig.
The Galley ready fitted kept down there would protect our Trade, in
that River.
Mr Keeport Demands are very great, he wants Iron much, Surely
it would be a Saving for the State to make use of its own.
