his Bond with good security to appear Before your Exl & Co by the
20th Inst to answer to the Charge made against him by Travis. I have
seazed his Vesel & Cargo untill I heare from you, the Cargo Consists
of flower War Iron & Potts &c. Sum people here have their doubts
that Mr Gar rock will not appear Before you, I should not have trusted
him if I had money to have Suplied a guard — pray Let me know as
soon as posable, what I am to do With the Vesel & Cargo if he is
Detaind, The Vesel Belongs to Robl Pitts in Virginia We have this
day apprehended Elijah Sturgis and have him in Goal, shall wate
your further orders. What to do with the Prisoners here as we have
not money to send them forward. The Draughts heare refuse to
march until they Receive their Bounty & the Sheriff has not Recd
Ten pounds of the Class money since I went to the Assembly, Sun-
dry men would furnish Substitutes for 6 months but it is not in my
power to pass them now unless they Inlist for three years Should
be Glad of your advice & Directions I am in hopes something favour-
able has happened in Virginia, as a number of Our Insurgents have
Deserted from them within a few Days, and Declare they will be
hang'd rather than stay as Long again with the Enemy — there is four
privetars and as many Barges in our sound they have plunderd the
Houses of Leven Gale & Levin Dashiell & Burned all the Houses of
the Latter yesterday morning. I wish to God the Galley and the
Barges Could Come down to Act with Capt Walley who will be out
in a few days I think we should be able to Take or at least Drive from
this State any force that will Come heare

Your Petitioner & prisoner, if your honours pleas, My Affairs are
in a desperate situation viz My property squandered about. Your
prisoner lying in a dirty Jail in a poor State of health no clothes to
keep himself clean. My rations stopp'd cut off from all the necessarys
of life. Good God what shall I do only this I depend on the bowels
of mercy from Your Excellency and the worthy Gentlemen in Your
Councill as it is most agreable to me to trust in Your honours Clem-
ency & Your petitioner shall with due thanksgiving ever pray
