Letter 79

which I have received the Corn to the amount (in the whole) of nine-
teen hundred and forty odd Bushels which corn has been of great use
to me, and to Colo Yeates, and has kept me in some little Credit with
the waggoners, (or rather has kept my credit as a State officer from
being Intirely ruined) The bearer Mr Abram Falioner is the Gentle-
man through whom I have obtained this Corn and who advanced the
Cash for it who I appointed to assist me to do the business of this
Shore (at the Head of Chester) when the stores and provisions were
ordered to be deposited there by your Excellency & Honours, who has
been very assidious and rendered considerable Service to this State
by which there is a Balance due him of two hundred & Eighty six
pounds eighteen shillings and two pence farthing as p his a/c this day
rendered and settled as Mr Falioner has layn a considerable time out
of part of this money, and informs me that he will take Tobacco or
flour in discharge of it. I have taken the Liberty of ordering on your
Excellency & Honours for the above sum,

[Dan of St Thos Jenifer, Dan'l Carroll and R. Potts, Philadelphia,
to Gov. Lee.]

The Comsy of Military Stores informs us that he forwarded for
Baltimore 300 Stand of Arms several days past & expects they have
been delivered before this all proper accoutrement attended the
arms — he likewise promises that 500 Stand more shall be on their
way down this week & the remainder in the next.
We have not received any money from Mr Mullahon Unless we are
supplied in a few days to answer the demands on us, our situation
will be extremely disagreeable. We are sorry to Trouble you so
often on this Subject,

[Mark Alexander Junr, Baltimore, to His Excellency Thomas S.
Lee Esqr]

I had the Honour of Receiving your Excellencys letter of the
25th Ult. informing me of my being appointed one of the Re-
cruiting Officers for Baltimore County. I am highly sensible of the
Honour your Excellency intended me by the Appointment, as noth-
ing could have given me greater Pleasure than that of serving my
Country in so Honourable an Employment. Your Excellency may be
assured that no exertion on my side shall be wanting to Procure
Recruits. But I must beg leave to [observe] that unless I am fur-
nished with Money for that purpose every effort of mine will be
fruitless. Should your Excellency think Proper to send me a Sum of
Money for the Above purpose I make not the least doubt of getting
Recruits Shall wait your Answer, which I shall expect shortly as our
Militia are to meet this week.
