Capt John Stoners Company. I flatter myself if your Excellency
knowes of no objection the Commissions will be forwarded by Cap
Boyer the bearer hereof that I may be enabled to muster the whole
Battalion on our next field Day.
[G. B. Causin, Causin Manor to His Excellency
Thos. Sim Lee Esqr.]
Sir About 6 or 8 Days since, I had the honor of receiving yrs &
the honble Councils Lre dated Augt last. In answer thereto I am tc
inform you that I think there is very little Dependence to be put in
any further Assistance in the Loan Way from this County; at least
from the Inhabitants in my District There being but few who I
think are able to do more than pay their Taxes according to due
Course of Law; & those few who are able, to all Appearance the
least willing. I have made enquiry concerning the Subscriptions of
our County Assembly men & find Mr Stone has pd his to Mr Jenifer,
Mr Dent is to do the same. Mr Hanson promises to pay his to Mr
Turner, & Mr Digges I immagine has paid his to Mr Hemmersley.
As to money, there is very little in circulation with us at present,
having had but a trifling Market for Tobo this Summer.
If there was any Chance of Success, your Excelly may be assured
I would persevere in the Business with Pleasure; but knowing from
Experience there is not I am for that Reason & that only, at present
inactive in it.

with us for their Wheat who have refused unless prompt Payment
can be made) the last is owing to the failure of payment by the
Continental Purchasers. I have pledged my Honor & advanced my
Cash so largely on Account of Mr Wederstranclt last Winter which
at present I have little prospect of having returned in any reasonable
Time that I cannot think of giving my word to the People for
payment of any Cattle unless I was conscious of being able to keep
it which from the general Tenor of your Letters I am of opinion I
cannot.
From 100 to 200 Head of Cattle may be procured in this County ;
had I been furnished with Cash I coud have made a considerable
purchase by this time, every days delay adds to their Price as many
are purchasing, I shall have some difficulty to get many to take the
new Money.
Pork is now currently selling at £450 p Bble I know of about
40 Bbles which I believe may be had for that Price. I have laid out
