the order for £6000 in Wheat as it lays on Hunting Creek nigh the
Mills should be glad to know if you chuse to have it & about 50
Bus I have recd for Certificates manufactured and your Terms for
manufacturing for the State. I have received about 300tt of Bacon
& 2 Bbles of Flour which I have delivered to Lieutt Hoopers orders
for the use of the Militia in the lower part of the County. The To-
bacco mentioned in your Letter can be readily disposed of at the
Price limitted.

[Smith & Matthews Baltimore to His Excellency
Thos. Sim Lee Esqr]

Sir In consequence of the very urgent necessity which our
Armey is in for want of Flour, the Patriotick Bank in Philadelphia
established, has supplyed us with money and directed us to purchase
in this place a quantity of Flour to be immediately forwarded to
Camp we have accordingly purchased and sent to the Head of Elk
a small quantity and intend procuring more, but as by the Law of
this State Flour &c cannot be carryed out of it, with out your
Excellencys permission. I take the Liberty of beging you would
favour us with a permit to purchase and forward Flour to the Bank
in Philadelphia for the use of the Army any security your Excel-
lency may think necessary to prevent our abusing such a power will
be given

[Tho. Price, Frederick Town to the Governor & Council]

Gentlemen His Excelency's Letter dated August 21st and Colo
Stones dated Septr 5th came to hand the 7th agreeable to your direc-
tions I have sent the Hats to Baltimore to the care of Mr George
Keeport. The waters have for sometime been so low that very little
grinding has been done however there is now a good prospect as it
has been raining the best part of this day and likely to continue.
The Farmers are in the hight of seeding, very few Waggons can
be had until that business is over which will be in about two weeks
and then few will go without they can besure of the Cash when
the service is done.
I believe there will be very little Beef delivered for the present
Assesment not any yet offer'd. I think a quantity but not a large one
may be purchased for Cash at about £90 p hundred but I shall not
offer more then £82.10 unless I have your Instructions for so doing.
The Tobacco as mentioned in his Excelency's Letter I think will not
answer in this County Dr Thomas one of the Collectors for the
Lone tells me he has receiv'd about 6900 Dollars, I believe the other
Collectors has not received any. I have talked with Colo Johnson
who has Acted as Lieut of this County respecting peoples delivering
wheat in lieu of the 15 p Cent under the law for filling up the Ba-
