That the said Treasurer pay to Solomon Sparrow ten pounds of
the same Emission, of the money aforesaid due him per Account
passed by the Aud. Genl
That the Issuing Commissary deliver to Mary Gordon a Soldier's
wife of the 3d Maryland Regiment one ration per Day until she
recovers her health.
State of Maryland. — Samuel Gerock confined on Suspicion of
trading with the Enemy, having entered into Bond with two good
Securities not to depart the County of Baltimore without leave of the

Governor and Council for the Time being and to be of good Be-
haviour during the Continuance of the present War and in the mean
time not by any Act or Speaking to do any thing to the prejudice of
this State or the United States and to make his personal appearance
before the next General Court to be held for the Shore and not to
depart therefrom without Leave of Court, is ordered to be discharged
from his present Confinement. Given in Council at Annapolis this
twentieth Day of October 1781 To Philip Thomas Esqr Lieut of
Frederick County.

Your Letter of the 1st Current was not received 'til yesterday. The
Law is express, that no Allowance is to be made for the fifth Quarter
in Discharge of Taxes. The Pork and Bacon, we think reasonable.
Colo Blaine was with us the other Day and informed the Board that
he had given general Directions respecting the Cattle on the Eastern
Shore, which we suppose you have received; you will feed them with
the Shorts and Bran until they are delivered.

It is with great Pleasure that we transmit the Copy of a Letter from
His Excellency General Washington dated the 12th All other Ac-
counts from Head Quarters agree, in the fair Prospects of subduing
his Lordship. We rejoice to find the Exertions of this State, have
given full Satisfaction to the Commander in Chief; we are daily for-
warding Flour and Cattle. You will be surprized at our Letter of the
11th accompanying this, but the plain Truth is that two Gentlemen
at Separate Times had engaged to convey it to you, and the 75th £
Specie, and, after some Delay returned it.

The News Papers will, before now, have informed you of the
bloody action in South Carolina of the 8th it fell very heavy on the
Maryland Line, though General Greene obtained the Victory and the
Enemy lost about 1100 Men. We apprehend that your Intelligence is
so good from Philadelphia that you will have heard that the British at
New York are fitting out all their Ships, it is said 28 or 29 Sail of the
Line and puting on Board 5000 Troops in Order to make a desperate
Attempt upon the French Fleet for the Relief of the Garrison of York.
