[Council to Thomas Harwood Esqr., Sheriff of
Ann Arundel County.]

It is represented to this Board, by the Petition of Elisha Hopkins,
that he was fined by a Court Martial fifty Pounds for non attendance
as a Militia Man, at a Time that his Family was extremely ill, and that
you have executed Tobacco and other Effects to that Value and adver-

tised them for Sale He is desirous of petitioning the Assembly for
Redress and Mitigation of the Fine, which appears excessive. We
have in similar Cases requested the Sheriffe to suspend the Sale of
the Effects until the Assembly can be applied to and as the Assembly
will meet in a short Time we think you can have an Opportunity of
petitioning for Relief.

[Council to John Bullen Esqr.]

You are required to provide proper Quarters for the Maryland
Officers now in this City and to furnish them with Fuel and other
Necessaries that they may be entitled to from your Department.

[Council to Captain Parker]

You are to proceed down the Bay to the Army in Virginia without
Delay, and deliver the Provision to the Commissary General or
his Deputy and the other Articles taken out of the Schooner to the
Commanding Officer of the French Troops or some other French
Officer authorized to receive them; they belong to the Division of the
French Troops commanded by Baron Viomeniel. You will take
proper Receipts for the Delivery, which are to be lodged with this
Board.

Thursday 27 September 1781

Ordered that the western shore Treasurer pay to John Bullen
seventy pounds of the Bills emitted under the Act for the Emission
of Bills of Credit &ca of the money appropriated for the present Cam-
paign on Account and also to Captain James Buchanan four pounds,
ten shillings of the same Emission of the money aforesaid his ex-
pences in carrying Dispatches from his Excellency Genl Washington
to the French fleet.

That the said Treasurer pay to Colo Thomas Woolford twenty
five pounds of the same Emission of the money aforesaid on Acct
That the said Treasurer pay to Capt Zedekiah Walley one hundred
pounds of the same Emission of the money appropriated for the De-
fence of the State to be delivered over to the E. Shore Treasr on Acct
That the Issuing Commissary deliver to Lieut Isaac Curtis one
Barrel Flour for the use of the Select Militia of Somerset County
who brought up the State Barge from Salisbury.
