£1500, and more shall be furnished when required. If you should
meet with any Difficulty in purchasing those Articles you must seize
them and give Certificates. You will also impress Waggons and
Carts, if they cannot be procured on Hire, to transport the Whiskey
and Brandy to George Town. The Letters for the Commissaries of
Frederick and Washington with the Money for each, you will send
instantly by safe Expresses. The Whiskey and Brandy to be pur-
chased by the Commissaries of Frederick and Washington is to be
deposited at George Town, and will be sent to you, which you will
receive and take Care of.

Your Letter of the 12th Instant we have received, wherein we
observe you have in some Instances contracted for Tobacco, which
Mode to us appears improper and inadmissible, and hope you will alter
those Contracts into Money, and avoid it in Future. The large and
pressing Demands of the Army for Provisions oblige us to request
of you to have all the Cattle collected in your County, drove to George
Town with all possible Dispatch, ready to be forwarded with the
other Cattle. In addition to the Number of Cattle assigned to your
County, we wish and desire you would purchase and collect immedi-
ately three hundred Head, to enable you to do which, we have sent
you eight hundred Pounds

Tuesday 18th September 1781

Ordered that the western shore Treasurer pay to William Bowie
one hundred Pounds three Shillings Specie agreeable to the Act to
adjust the Debts due from this State per Certificate settled by the
Aud. Genl
That the said Treasurer pay to John Smoot forty one pounds
fifteen shillings and five pence. Joshua Richardson three pounds,
fifteen shillings and six pence, and Ensign William Morgan forty
seven pounds, Seven shillings Specie agreeable to the " Act to adjust
the Debts due from this State " per Accounts passed by the Depy
Aud and Aud Genl
That the said Treasurer pay to Henry Dorsey Gough three hun-
dred and Eighty three pounds, seven shillings and four pence, and
also to Capt. John Mills four hundred and twenty three pounds, five
Shillings and four pence Specie agreeable to the Act aforesaid for the
use of himself and a Detachment of Militia under his Command per
Accounts passed by the Aud. Genl the 17th Inst.
That the said Treasurer pay to Cornet Erasmus Gantt five hundred
pounds of the Bills emitted under the Act for the Emission of Bills
of Credit &ca of the money appropriated for the Defence of the Bay
on Account.
