[Council to Thomas Contee Esqr.]

We have received your Letter of the 22d respecting some Goods
taken by Mr William Claget belonging to your Son, similar Seizures
have been made in most of the Counties, in Consequence of a Law for
procuring an immediate Supply of Cloathing for the Troops. When
the Possessor of the Goods and the Commissary cannot agree on
the Price, the Commissary is authorized to seize the Goods and give
a Certificate to the Owner expressing the Quantitys and Oualitys and
directed to send a Copy of the Certificates to us with Samples of the
Goods, but no Mode is prescribed by the Law for ascertaining the
Value which induces us to conclude that it is the Intention of the
Assembly to have the Value fixed at some future Session by Com-
mittee of that Bodv.
