[Council to John Murdock, Esqr.]

A Complaint has been lodged with this Board by William Veal
Steuart that he is returned by you as a Substitute for one of the
Classes in your County improperly, to support which he has pro-
duced several Depositions to prove that he was not fairly enlisted.
We wish you to make enquiry into the Matter and to see that the
Man has Justice done him

[Council to Captain Nicholas Maccubbin.]

You will apply to Col. Adams for the British Prisoners confined in
the public Goal, and have them marched immediately to Frederick
Town under a Guard to consist of one commanding Officer one
Serjeant one Corporal and twenty rank and File there to be delivered
to Colo Philip Thomas Lieutenant of Frederick County, to be by him
forwarded to Fort Frederick and put under the Care of Colo Moses
Rawlings Commander of the Fort. We hereby empower and direct
you to impress as many Horses as may be necessary to mount the
Guard ordered on this Service, You will order that particular Atten-
tion is paid to Matthew Mangen late Captain of the Jack o Lanthon,
he is represented to this Board as a Man that has been principally
concerned in burning the Houses of the Inhabitants of this State.

You will be so obliging as to have delivered to Capt Nicholas Mac-
cubbin or his Order all the British Prisoners now under Guard in
this City.

[Council to Colo. Richard Barnes.]

The three British Prisoners with Taylor were yesterday delivered
by John Wood, and were immediately ordered into Confinement. We
have not yet determined what to do with Taylor as soon as we do,
you shall have Information. His Excellency being out of Town
prevents our sending the Commissions you request on his return you
may depend upon having them immediately sent.

Ordered That the western shore Treasurer pay to Lieut Elihu Hall
of the 1st Regimt forty six pounds six Shillings due him p Acct passed
by the A. Gl
That the said Treasurer pay to John Payne one pound four shil-
lings due him per Account passed by the Aud. Genl
That the said Treasurer pay to Thomas Williams Esqr eighteen
shillings and five pence for the use of Joshua Clark and six pounds
five shillings due himself per Accounts passed by the Aud. Genl
