them with fresh Provisions without receiving Dead Beef and en-
gaging that it should be discounted for Taxes as Beef on the Hoof;
We therefore request you will give Directions to the Collector of Ann
Arundel County to receive in Discount for Taxes all Certificates
issued by John Crisal since the first Day of March last for Dead Beef,
the same Manner as if it had been delivered on the Hoof.

We have just received certain Information that three Ships one
Brigg and two Schooners appeared off Herring Bay early this Morn-
ing they now lie at Anchor, the wind and Tide being against them.
We suppose it is the same Force that went up to Alexandria. You
will direct the Militia to be in readiness and make every other Prep-
aration which you may esteem proper in the present Conjuncture.

We have sent Mr Isaac McHard for the £5000 agreeable to our
Order of yesterday drawn on you, which we request you will deliver
to him.

[Council to Lieutenants of Baltimore and Harford Counties.]

Walter Pigot who was executed by Order of the Marquis among
other Things gave Information that a certain Joshua Dorsey a resi-
dent of Baltimore Town was on Board the enemies Ships whilst they
lay opposite the Harbour, we enclose you a warrant to apprehend
him, and Seize all his Papers. If he has removed to any other Part of
this State and you can give Information to the Lieutenant or any
other Person to secure him you will be so kind to have it done, if
apprehended to cause him with his Papers to be sent under a Sufficient
Guard to this City for Examination.

We received yours with a Letter enclosed for Mr Hoaltesly which

will be transmitted as soon as possible, the Passport will be granted
immediately on our being furnished with the Information required
in ours of the 18th Current, We cannot grant a Passport to proceed
to any Part of Virginia; it must be obtained of the Government of
that State.

We have received your Favor of the 20th Instant, and are exceed-
ingly concerned that the Prisoners are Still with you and without
Provisions, we expected they had marched some Time ago; we have
wrote to Col. Price to furnish you with what Provisions he may
