Thomas Travers, Alexander Philips and Drummond Cramphin
have been sent to this Board for Examination, charged with adhering
to and trading with the Enemy, we are so much engaged at Present
that we cannot go into their Examination; we shall be much obliged to
you to examine the Papers enclosed and if you shall be of Opinion
that there is not sufficient Evidence for you to confine them you will
inform us.

[Council to Col. Joshua Beall.]

We wrote you this Morning by Mr Turnbull since which we have
received a Letter from the Lieutenant of Montgomery requesting
some Arms with Accoutrements. We have given Mr Turnbull an
Order for fifty Stand of Arms with Accoutrements, a Barrell of
Cannon and one keg of musquet Powder to be delivered to you and
which we request you to forward immediately to John Murdock Esqr
Lieutenant of Montgomery.

Ibid

[Council to John Smith Brookes, Esqr.]

The Militia of Prince George's County called in Service will re-
quire an immediate Supply of Provisions. We therefore require you
to collect with all possible Dispatch as much as will answer their

7 Demands while in Service. You are not to make use of what you
have on Hand as that will be wanted for other Purposes; but you are
to endeavour to procure from the Inhabitants what may be necessary ;
and if that Mode will not answer, you are hereby required and
authorised to seize the Quantity necessary for the Supply of the
Militia from those who can best spare it, for which you are to give
Certificates Specifying the kind and Quality so seized by you. As
Frugality in the Expenditure is absolutely necessary, you are to take
the Quarter Masters receipt for what you deliver him, and that he
be ordered not to deliver more than the common Ration to each Man.
The want of Provision at this Post requires us to order on what you
have on Hand [to be sent] on immediately, which we desire may be
done without Loss of Time.

[Council to Col. Joshua Beall.]

We received yours by Mr Turnbull, whenever you give us any
Information respecting public Matters we wish you to be more ex-
plicit whether it is given from your own knowledge or from Report
with the Particulars that we may be better enabled to judge what
Conduct to pursue. We cannot spare the Number of Arms you re-
quest as it has been necessary to embody Part of the Militia of this
County, and pressing Demands are made by the Lieutenant of St.
Mary's County, you may however depend on having at least one
hundred and twenty from Mr West. Mr Turnbull will deliver you
