[Council to Col. Ware.]

We have made use of the opportunity by some Waggons sent by
Col. Joshua Beall for Arms &ca for the Militia of Prince George's
County of forwarding to you seventy five Stand of Arms with
Accoutrements for the use of the Militia of your County.

April 9
Liber No. 78
p. US

[Council to John Murdock, Esqr.]

Yours of the 7th Instant is received. It is our Intention to give
every Assistance in our power to the neighbouring States, and with
you to assist Virginia on this Emergency if it can be done without
leaving George Town and the Neighbourhood exposed to the Ravages
of the Enemy, which must depend on Circumstances that cannot pos-
sibly be foreseen by us and therefore we submit the Propriety of it
to your Discretion The Prisoners with you except Dixon, we would
if possibly can be done have exchanged for Capt William Middleton
taken by the British Fleet in Virginia of the State Boat Dolphin and
two of his Crew whom he may make Choice of, we have wrote to the
Commissary of Montgomery to furnish the Militia which may be
called into Service with Provisions on your Order. You will send the
Recruits to this Place, tho we cannot legally order them from the
County before they are Cloathed yet we supposed they will not have
any objection when we engage that they shall not be ordered from this
until they are cloathed, indeed it is absolutely necessary that they
should be drawn to a Point that they may be properly disciplined
before they are called into the Field and may be better provided here
than they possibly can be with you when a Return of the Enrollment
of the Select Militia is made we shall be more able to judge of the
Propriety of commissioning Mr John Hammond Nicholls. We have
sent fifty stand of Arms with Accoutrements one Keg of Musket
and a Barrell of Cannon Powder to Col Joshua Beall of Prince
George's County to be immediately forwarded to you

Goals are so in secure, that it is needless to attempt to confine their
