378 Proceedings and Correspondence

April 5
Liber No. 78
p. 109

[Council to Capt. Ford.]

You will furnish the Militia of St. Mary's County with such Pro-
visions as Col Barnes may order.

Ibid.

[Council to Andrew Buchanan, Esqr.]

We agree with you in Opinion of the Propriety and Necessity of
calling the Militia of Baltimore into immediate Service for the De-
fence and Protection of the Place. The Number requisite for this
Service, we conceive you best acquainted with; and therefore request
you may order out what Number you think proper. You will procure
what Arms and Accoutrements will be sufficient and every other
Necessary from the Magazine. You will fix on and settle such Signals
as may answer the End proposed, of calling the Militia of the County
to any Point you please.

Ibid.

[Council to Joseph Wilkinson, Esqr.]

We have received your Letter of the 27th of March respecting the
Depredations committed and continued by the Enemy on the Coasts
of your County. We approve of your ordering out a Guard of
Alilitia and securing all the Boats and Craft. While the Enemy's Ship
and Vessels continue near you, Guards will be necessary but your
own Prudence will point out to you not to draw a greater Number
of Militia than what are absolutely necessary. As we suppose the
Militia will be releived frequently we expect they can readily supply
themselves with Provisions but if there are any who cannot, you
must apply to Mr Patrick Smith the Commissary for such quantity
as you may find necessary. Let what Recruits are obtained in your
County be sent to this Place
