Ordered that the Treasurer pay to James Brooke eight hundred
and ten pounds for a Blank Book purchased of him for the use of the
Council.
That the Commissary of Stores deliver to Capt. Brown for the
use of his Company of Artillery forty two Coats forty two Jackets
forty two hats twenty seven blankets & five complete suits of Cloaths
two pair of shoes & two shirts to the suit.
Whereas it appears to this Board by a Letter of the 6th Instant
received from John Murdock and Richard Thompson Esquires of
Montgomery County, that Saml Elbert Esquire of the State of
Georgia and Brigadier General in the Continental Army and Colo
Leonard Marbury of the same State, and also by a Letter from
Colo Marbury of the 6th Instant that William O'Brien, William Gib-
bons and Matthew Griffen of the State aforesaid was driven from
that State by the Enemy and have settled in this State that they have
taken the Oath of Allegiance to the Stae of Georgia and have done
every thing that good Citizens could do in Support of their Country
they have the Approbation of the Board to settle in this State.
Whereas we are informed that Benjamin Shockley has in a violent
and outrageous Manner resisted the late Sheriff of Worcester County
in the execution of the Laws and compelled him to resign his said
Office whereby together with the general Conduct and Conversation
of the said Benjamin Shockley in drinking Success to the King of
Great Britain and boasting that they expect ample Satisfaction for
what had been taken from them, Dissatisfaction is spread amongst
the Subjects of this State and the disaffected and evil disposed are
encouraged to oppose the Government and its Laws. The Lieutenant
of Worcester County is hereby empowered required and directed to
arrest the said Benjamin Shockley without delay and have him before
us forthwith that he may be dealt with according to Law and for his
so doing this shall be his Justification. Given in Council this 15th Day
of February 1781
Whereas from the Information we have received there is just
Reason to suspect a certain Captain Beach now in Cecil or Harford
County of clandestinely trading with the Enemy and transporting
Flour to New York. The Lieutenants of Cecil and Harford Counties
are hereby empowered required and directed to arrest the said Capt.
Beach and have him before us forthwith that he may be dealt with
according to Law and for their so doing this shall be their Justifi-
cation.
