cure on the Hoof to Mr George Murdoch in Frederick Town and

Ordered that the Issuing Commissary deliver to Nathaniel Shep-
herd of Mr Rutlands Sloop rations for himself and hands whilst in
the public Service
That the western shore Treasurer pay to Thomas Gassaway one
hundred Dollars of the new Emission on Account.
That the said Treasurer pay to Samuel Harvey Howard forty
seven pounds twelve shillings and six pence of the same Emission
due him p Acct passed by the Aud. Genl
That the Armourer deliver to Capt Thomas Steel of the Brig Fox
six pound of Match rope.
Commission of Letters of Marque and Reprisal issued to James
Kiersted Commander of the Schooner Nautilus one hundred and
three Tons burthen, navigated by twenty men, mounting eight Car-
riage Guns belonging to John Dorsey & Co Baltimore

We this Moment received your Favor of this Day and will most
chearfully contribute our Assistance on this Day and every other
occasion to enable your State to repel the common Enemy. We can
Supply you with four eighteen Pounders and three nines and one
hundred eighteen Pounds of Shot and the like Number of nine
Pound shot, ten Barrels of Powder, (six of Canon and four of
Musquet) Dorsey and Company have two twelve Pounders here
with Carriages which they offer to lend. The Carriages belonging
to Canon are so out of Repair that they will not bear them, so that
it will be necessary for you to send Carriages, our Canon is lodged
at the Head of Severn River. It gives us much Concern that we
cannot spare you any Musquets, field Pieces or Cartridge Paper,
having only a Number necessary for our use, in Case we should be
invaded. We wish to be informed of the Progress and Conduct
of the Enemy as frequently as you possibly can.

You are immediately to proceed with the Dolphin and Plater as
low down the Bay as is consistent with Discretion and your Safety
keeping a good Look out. If you discover the Vessels of the Enemy
or obtain authentic Intelligence of their Movements up the Bay in
Force, you are to return and advise us thereof with the utmost Expe-
